It was once considered to be a member of the Figwort Family; it has since been reassigned (based on DNA studies) to the Plantain Family (Plantaginaceae). It’s the only member of its genus native to New England. Chelone lyonii is only native to the southeastern United States - but a very cool plant to find in the woods.
