Along the coasts of both northwestern and southeastern Florida torrential rain makes the heaviest contribution, while in the interior of the peninsula it contributes the least.

The threat of hurricanes is very real for Florida during the six-month long Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 until November 30. The peak of hurricane season occurs between mid-August and late October, when the waters in the equatorial Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico have warmed enough to help support the development of tropical waves.

An unusual May storm system brought widespread heavy rainfall to nearly all areas of the State with the coastal areas of Northeast Florida once again the epicenter. Virtually all locations, with the exception of the Western Panhandle, received at least 2 inches of rain from this system, with most locations seeing significantly more.
