U.S. Route 80 (US 80) is a former U.S. highway in California that continued east across the country to Georgia. The western terminus of US 80 was in San Diego, California, and it continued east through the city on several different alignments through the years.

Often, the road through San Diego County is called Old Highway 80. In Descanso Junction, the pre-interstate route follows Wildwood Glen Lane from a dead end on the north side of I-8 to CA 79. The majority of the road was closed to traffic in 2005.

U.S. numbered highway 80 stretches between Savannah, Georgia (later Tybee Island) on the Atlantic and San Diego, California on the Pacific. Much of U.S. 80 was along the path of the earlier Dixie Overland Highway.

US 80 in California formerly ran from downtown San Diego east to Winterhaven at the Colorado River. I-8 bypassed the old highway entirely by 1972. Early portions of freeway were built in Mission Valley in the late 1940’s and mid 1950’s. This page will have a tour of the highway with photos and maps.
