The Lower Sugarloaf Fire is the largest fire burning in Washington at 30,000 acres and is only 27% contained. The Labor Mountain Fire has grown to 17,181 acres.
A year ago, the remnants of Hurricane Helene washed away portions of the popular trail. Half of it has reopened, and the Forest Service says repair of the rest will be completed by September 2026.
