A patient who was hospitalized with measles in Texas has died, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday. It marks the first death in the state's latest outbreak — the largest such outbreak in close to 30 years — which has left more than 120 people infected.

A measles outbreak in Texas’ South Plains neared 100 cases Friday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services, which warned more cases of the highly contagious virus are likely to pop up in outbreak areas.

A person who was hospitalized has died from measles in West Texas, the first death in an outbreak that began late last month. Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center spokesperson Melissa Whitfield confirmed the death Wednesday.
