Officials say the North Carolina restaurant shooting that left three dead was highly premeditated, with the suspect tied to anti-LGBTQ claims.

The governor spoke hours after the alleged shooter, a military veteran who was shot in Iraq, made his first court appearance on murder charges.

The man suspected of killing three people and injuring five others Saturday night at American Fish Company acted alone in a “highly premeditated” attack, authorities said. Nigel Max Edge is charged with three counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder ahead of an initial court appearance Monday.
