An October day in Las Vegas resembled more of a July day in Scotland, sans the rain, which wouldn’t have mattered much if that day didn’t also happen to be when the second round of the PGA Tour’s Shriners Children’s Open was schedule for TPC Summerlin.

One day after carrying an extra club in his bag, Joel Dahmen has pulled out of the Shriners Children’s Open. Joel Dahmen is calling it quits ahead of Friday’s second round of the Shriners Children’s Open. He decided to withdraw a little before 10 a.m. PT—roughly one hour before play began. A lengthy wind delay halted play until then.

“The Friday morning delay at the Shriners Children’s Open is due to extremely high winds we are experiencing in Las Vegas,” said PGA Tour referee Stephen Cox. “For the safety of operational staff, tournament volunteers, spectators and our athletes and caddies, we have extended the delay as we continue to monitor the situation.”

The Shriners Children’s Open is far more than a run-of-the-mill PGA Tour event and does so much to help so many people.
