MLB offseason came when the San Francisco Giants dismissed  Bob Melvin. The move was followed by the Minnesota Twins firing Rocco Baldelli later Monday afternoon.  San Francisco's move came one day after the Giants ended the regular season with an 81-81 record while Minnesota made its change after finishing 70-92.

The Tigers had the best record in baseball at times and built a 14-game lead at one point. They lost 12 of 13 through the middle of July and 11 of 12 through the middle of last week.
