DMPS' decade of superintendent challenges
Des Moines Superintendent Ian Roberts joins a string of superintendents whose tenures ended in scandal, controversy or costly exits. Below are some of the most recent examples over the last decade. Former DMPS Superintendent Tom Ahart,
"Dr. Roberts does not want to distract the Board, educators, and staff from focusing on educating DMPS's students," a letter from his attorney reads.
According to a press release from ICE, Roberts is a Guyana National and was given a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May of 2024. DMPS said it did not have any knowledge of the order for removal. Roberts entered the United States in 1999 on a student visa, ICE said.
