BUXTON, N.C. (WBTV) - Six houses on the Outer Banks collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean this week as hurricanes churned offshore. Five of the unoccupied homes, all of which were located in Buxton, fell into the ocean on Tuesday, Sept. 30. A sixth collapsed on Wednesday, Oct. 1, according to our sister station, WITN.
The tropical hazard outlook for September, issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center this week, indicates that forecasters expect the warmer waters to increase the chances of tropical activity in the Gulf next week. The second half of hurricane season typically sees more activity in the Caribbean and Gulf than the first half.

Officials with Cape Hatteras National Seashore said five oceanfront homes collapsed in Buxton within a 60-minute time frame, beginning at around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
