AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Saturday, the Austin Police Department confirmed it was investigating a homicide in southeast Austin. According to police, the initial call came in at approximately 4 a.m. for a fire in the 1700 block of Nelms Drive, near Interstate 35 and William Cannon Drive.

A fire that broke out at an encampment in southeast Austin on Saturday is now being investigated as a potential homicide.

An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead Saturday afternoon. According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office, authorities responded to 14th Street at Jones Street in reference to a deceased female.
