Nintendo said it would announce additional details about the console on April 2, 2025. In an accompanying press release, Nintendo said it would allow customers to test the Nintendo Switch 2 at events in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas in April, with other events planned across Europe, Asia and Australia through May.

Japan's Nintendo said on Thursday it will release the Switch 2 console this year, unveiling a device that appeared to closely follow the design of its popular predecessor.

There’s a new button under the home button on the right Joy-Con, which had shown up in leaks. The video also appears to show the Joy-Cons being used similarly to a mouse. And the SL and SR buttons on the Joy-Cons are bigger than they are on the original Switch’s Joy-Cons.

Nintendo shares tumbled as much as seven percent on Friday after the Japanese games giant failed to impress with a teaser video of its hotly awaited Switch 2 console.

The new console looks physically similar to the popular Switch system, which has sold more than 146 million units in seven years.
