LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell will not run for reelection when his current term expires in January 2027.

Longtime Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell will not seek reelection next year, he announced Thursday, ending a decadeslong run as one of the most powerful Republicans in the country.

Daniel Cameron, former state attorney general, quickly took to social media announcing his plans to run for McConnell's seat.
