Removing your shoes before going though TSA always feels like a chore, but there is a very serious reason why you need to take them off before boarding.

There's some good news for travelers going through TSA screening areas at Jacksonville International Airport: your shoes can stay on. Here's why.

Travelers departing from the Portland International Airport are among the thousands of people who will no longer have to take their shoes off while going through checkpoints.

Effective immediately, the TSA will allow passengers traveling through domestic airports to keep their shoes on at TSA checkpoints.

However, if the alarm goes off during the security screening, "you may be required to remove your shoes for further screening or undergo a pat-down," the TSA said.
