The culprit? The “low pressure” fuel pump. These vehicles have two fuel pumps. They have a low pressure fuel pump installed inside the tank to move gasoline into the fuel line. Then between the tank and engine a “high pressure” pump sends the fuel on its way to the injection system.

Ford is recalling more than 850,000 of its cars across the U.S. because the low-pressure fuel pump inside the vehicles may fail — and potentially cause an engine stall while driving, increasing crash risks.
