Two RAF jets were scrambled after a bomb threat was reportedly made on an Air India flight to Heathrow on Thursday. The Air India Boeing 777 was flying from Mumbai to London when it sent out emergency signals over the North Sea.

The captain of the plane could be heard telling air traffic control that the aircraft had a "suspected bomb" on board.

The Air India jet was circling over Norfolk before the Typhoon interceptors met it. An RAF spokesman said the alert ended without incident and the Boeing 777-300 "was released to continue to its original destination".

The RAF has sent Typhoon fighter jets to intercept an Indian flight heading into London’s Heathrow Airport after it declared a ‘bomb threat’. An Air India flight from Mumbai declared an emergency earlier this afternoon.
