Seven people were injured, including a child, when a taxi crashed into pedestrians on a sidewalk near Herald Square in New York City on Christmas Day. The accident happened next to the iconic Macy’s department store on the corner of West 34th Street and the Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan shortly after 4pm.

A taxi cab jumped the curb and slammed into six pedestrians walking near Macy’s on W. 34th St. and Sixth Ave. on Wednesday afternoon, NYPD officials said.

The New York Police Department said in a statement to PEOPLE that officers responded to a call of “pedestrians struck” just after 4 p.m. on a sidewalk located on Sixth Avenue near Herald Square, a popular tourist destination during the holidays steps away from Macy's.
