A 58-year-old inmate scheduled to die next month won’t fight his execution. Mark Allen Geralds was convicted in the 1989 murder of Tressa Pettibone in Panama City Beach.

The Florida Supreme Court today affirmed the death sentence for Richard Barry Randolph, who was convicted of the 1988 murder of Minnie Ruth McCollum in Palatka. The Court denied Randolph's appeal of the denial of his fourth successive motion for postconviction relief,

While veterans represent an estimated 12 percent of Florida’s 256 death row inmates, they account for nearly 40 percent of the 18 death warrants that the governor has signed this year.

So far this year, Florida has put three times the number of death row inmates to death than the next state, with more to come.

Mark Allen Geralds, who faces execution on December 9 for the 1989 murder of Tressa Lynn Pettibone, has formally waived all remaining postconviction and appellate proceedings, accelerating the execution process in a year that has already seen Florida set a modern-era record for capital punishment.
