Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, who first suggested building the $450 million-per-year facility at a small airport in the middle of the Everglades, garnered praise from conservative leaders around the country for the project.

The Florida AG said on X that "hundreds" will go to the migrant detention facility on Wednesday night. Crews also placed an "Alligator Alcatraz" sign over the airport signage.

"If somebody were to get out, there's nowhere to run, nowhere to hide — only the alligators and pythons are waiting," Uthmeier told "Fox Business."
