ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Donald Trump described his face-to-face with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Thursday as a roaring success, saying he would cut tariffs on China, while Beijing had agreed to allow the export of rare earth elements and start buying American soybeans.

President Donald Trump says Chinese President Xi Jinping has given him assurances that Beijing would take no action toward its long-stated goal of unifying Taiwan with mainland China while the Republican leader is in office.

"We have not too many major stumbling blocks," Trump said of a formal trade agreement after meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.

President Trump said he and Chinese leader Xi Jinping "agreed to almost everything" in their nearly two-hour meeting in South Korea, which Trump said was "friendly."

Trump flew back to Washington on Thursday after talks with Xi in South Korea in which the American president agreed to cut tariffs on China in exchange for Chinese action to crack down on the drug fentanyl trade, resume buying U.S. soybeans and keep rare earths exports flowing.
