On Friday, 13 residents evacuated the village of Toshima on Akusekijima and arrived at Kagoshima Port by ship, local media reported.
Following Thursday's quake, local authorities in Toshima, consisting of seven inhabited islands and five uninhabited ones, pledged to evacuate residents willing to leave Akusekijima.
A similarly intense quake was also recorded earlier in the day, shortly after 4:30 a.m., on nearby Akusekijima island.
