At long last, Utah’s NHL team has a name. Smith Entertainment Group revealed the new name and permanent identity of the franchise as the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday. The name, chosen after fans made 850,000 votes over 13 months, is inspired by the extinct, elephant-like animal that roamed Utah more than 10,00 years ago.

The NHL team in Salt Lake City is now known as the Utah Mammoth, and in addition to the name, the team's logos and jerseys were released to the public, as well.

It is finally official, the Utah Hockey Club is no more. After a yearlong process, the team announced Wednesday morning that the new name and identity for the franchise is the Utah Mammoth.
