Women planning pill abortions in Wyoming will need to get an ultrasound after lawmakers overrode the governor’s veto of the law.

Republican Gov. Mark Gordon had vetoed the bill, saying it would be traumatizing for victims of rape and incest, but GOP state legislators voted to override him.

The governor cited concerns over the bill’s invasive nature and its lack of exceptions for victims of rape and incest in his veto letter. But most state lawmakers were unswayed.

CHEYENNE—Gov. Mark Gordon vetoed a bill late Monday that would have required patients seeking abortion medications to first undergo a transvaginal ultrasound and a 48-hour waiting period. While maintaining his “pro-life stance,” Gordon said he objected to the bill’s invasive nature and its lack of exceptions for victims of rape or incest.
