Shannon O’Brien defeated former state lawmaker Mike Jopek to become the new head of the Montana Democratic Party.

Montana Democrats elected new leaders over the weekend. Newer voices prevailed over stalwart members of the party.

Former Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale is endorsing Sid Daoud as Kalispell’s next mayor. Daoud announced the endorsement via Facebook on Sept. 11 with a comment from the former congressman, a hard-line conservative Republican whose political profile has dimmed since he dropped his bid for U.

An 11th person has been arrested for allegedly casting an illegal vote in Island Park during the May 16, 2023, election. Charles Lower, 68, was charged with one count of illegal voting and perjury, both felonies.

"It’s time for a new era, and this is that new chapter," O'Brien said. New vice chair Max Johansen said Democrats "need to be on the attack" to gain ground.
