Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka said in a statement on Thursday that ICE "raided" a business in the city and detained "undocumented residents, as well as citizens, without producing a warrant."

ICE said it conducted a 'targeted enforcement operation at a worksite' in Newark but did not disclose details. The owner of a restaurant said three of his workers were taken into custody.

The group says the hotline is not intended to protect criminals but to make sure immigrant families in Arizona aren't torn apart.

Federal immigration agents on Thursday detained several workers, including a U.S. military veteran, at Oceans Seafood Depot in Newark, NJ, local advocates and officials told FOX 5 NY.

ICE agents often operate in the community without notifying local authorities and may wear uniforms resembling those of local police, creating potential confusion, Napa’s police chief said.

At least 27 agencies across the nation are currently listed as having submitted applications to the program, including agencies in Texas, Georgia, Montana, Oklahoma and Louisiana. Nearly half of the pending applications are from Florida law enforcement agencies.
