Russia and Ukraine both reported attacks on their forces on the first day of a 72-hour ceasefire called by Russian President Vladimir Putin to mark the anniversary of the World War II victory with a parade in Moscow.

Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of violating a three-day ceasefire which was declared by Vladimir Putin last week and came into effect on Thursday.

Russia will on Friday parade combat drones that its forces use in Ukraine on Moscow's Red Square, state TV reported, saying it was a first. Russian state TV's Channel One said the Lancet drone and the Geran-2 drone would be among those shown off in the parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies over Nazi Germany.

Russia marked the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany with its traditional military parade on Friday - but this time the weapons displayed included drones used in the Ukraine war as President Vladimir Putin drew parallels between the two conflicts.
