Block Communications, the owner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, announced that the 240-year-old newspaper will cease operations in May. Block Communications also recently shut down the Pittsburgh City Paper, a 34-year-old weekly publication it purchased in 2023.
Block Communications Inc., a Toledo-based media company that reportedly generated $1.1 billion in revenue last year, announced Wednesday that it will shutter the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the region’s largest newspaper, on May 3.
