Mediations began on Monday between the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and NYSCOPBA, the union representing the state's corrections officers. Those negotiations, which have been scheduled for several days,

Police say the buses, owned by the state’s Department of Corrections, were vandalized while parked in a storage lot in Western New York. One was burned and another was spraypainted with the message “Can you hear us now.” It comes as prison workers enter day eight of a strike over working conditions.

Correctional officers complain of unsafe conditions, but critics say the protests were meant to deflect attention from ‘a moment of reckoning.’

As the New York State corrections officers strike continues​, both sides are set to meet with a mediator on Monday.
