The International Space Station has been orbiting Earth for more than two decades, and if you know where and when to look you might see it overhead.

For more than 25 years, the International Space Station (ISS) has been a beacon of human ingenuity, orbiting 250 miles above Earth. But this symbol of international collaboration is reaching the end of its operational life.

California-based Vast Space has revealed the design of a space station that could replace the ISS when it's decommissioned in 2031.The Latest Tech News, Delivered to Your Inbox

Vast Space, a California company, believes its Haven 2 design is the best successor to the decades-old ISS project.

Vast's Haven-2 concept joins three other commercial space-station proposals that have been submitted to NASA, and would string together modules launched from 2028 through 2032.

In late September, the inspector general identified 588 replacement parts that were operating beyond their planned operational lifetimes.

Thanks to a new contract from NASA, Sierra Space Corp. will develop a Trash Compaction and Processing System and test it aboard the International Space Station in late-2026.
