The beaches at Assateague Island and Ocean City, Maryland, are closed due to dangerous rip currents and high surf brought on by Hurricane Erin.

Hurricane Erin will pass well offshore the Mid-Atlantic but close enough to generate strong winds and dangerous seas and surf for Virginia, Maryland and Delaware beaches, particularly Wednesday and Thursday.

Effective immediately, all ocean side beaches, including the Assateague Island State Park, have suspended in-water activities due to rip current conditions and the anticipation of extremely high surf.
