A Denver jury convicted a 23-year-old man on Thursday morning of first-degree murder in the 2022 shooting death of a beloved mother and community leader in the East Colfax neighborhood.

A jury ruled Thursday that a man accused of the shooting death of Ma Kaing is guilty of murder. In July 2022, Denver businesswoman Ma Kaing was unloading groceries outside of her apartment on Xenia Street when she was killed by a stray bullet.

Jurado-Lugo had been identified as a suspect a few days after the murder, but went into hiding. He was arrested in Mexico in August 2023 before being extradited back to Denver in December 2023.

Lu Reh was convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the July 2022 killing of 42-year-old Ma Kaing.
