While hurricanes are fueled by warm ocean waters, bomb cyclones are "cold-core" systems. They are typically triggered when a cold air mass from the north collides with a warm, moist air mass, creating a sharp temperature gradient that provides the energy for the storm to deepen quickly.

Tropical Cyclone Hayley has been upgraded to a category four system and residents living on Western Australia's Dampier Peninsula have been told to prepare for "severe impacts" when the system makes landfall tonight.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for all of southeast Michigan through the day Monday. These winds are strong enough to make travel difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles, and power outages are increasingly likely as the morning wears on.

Meanwhile, Cyclone 98S, which formed on December 27, is currently located in northern Australia. The likelihood that this cyclone seed system will become a tropical cyclone is low. The BMKG has not detected any influence of this wind vortex on the country's weather.

The cyclone hit the island nation in November, causing widespread flooding, landslides and severe infrastructure collapse.
