A nationwide candy distributor filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a week before Halloween to deal with its debt woes. CandyWarehouse.com filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas on Oct. 24, according to Bankruptcy Observer.
Candy companies are changing their recipes. Climate change is affecting cocoa production and leading to higher prices and scarcity. That, in turn, has the candy industry redoing its recipes to try to minimize the use of cocoa and cocoa butter and use alternative ingredients without messing too much with the taste.
After that, the structure shifts. “Once the excitement has passed, I recommend three pieces of candy a day,” Rice says. “Maybe with lunch, maybe after dinner, whatever works for your family. The key is that it’s consistent and expected.” What matters most, according to Rice, is that parents take the lead by being reliable.
Families are cutting back on chocolate, buying in bulk, or skipping Halloween candy altogether as prices rise.

Candy isn't exactly a nutrient-packed health food, but it can certainly still be part of a mindful, healthy diet, Erin Palinski-Wade, a registered dietitian based in New Jersey, tells TODAY.com. "In fact, trying to avoid it completely usually just makes you crave it more," she says.
