Quarterback Caleb Williams was driving on the highway when he received the call from Chicago Bears leaders with the news Monday. Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was set to become his new head coach.

The Bears had targeted Johnson as their top candidate since firing head coach Matt Eberflus the day after Thanksgiving, convinced that his play-calling acumen and leadership skills were a perfect pairing with quarterback Caleb Williams and the rest of the Bears’ roster.

The idea of slowly building up a foundation is not part of Ben Johnson's plan for the Bears as he sees the chance for immediate success with the current roster.
