A source tells PEOPLE exclusively that “nothing happened” between Nicole Kidman and Salma Hayek after fans believe the pair had a tense interaction at the Balenciaga fashion show on Sept. 30 based on a viral video.

But Kidman pushed Hayek’s arm away and turned her attention toward Perry, 39. Hayek, whose husband François-Henri Pinault owns Balenciaga, had a tense look on her face after the awkward exchange with Kidman, who is a brand ambassador for the company. After greeting Perry, Kidman briefly exchanged a few words with Hayek.

To one body language expert, Kidman offered what looks like ‘a masterclass’ in protecting her boundaries as Hayek tried to push her to keep posing for red carpet photos.
