Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies, is set to acquire Kenvue, the parent company of Tylenol, in a nearly $50 billion deal.

Clark said on Monday it plans to acquire Band-Aid maker Kenvue, even as the latter company faces thousands of lawsuits involving its painkiller Tylenol and talc-based baby powder, raising questions about the scope of the liabilities Kimberly-Clark might inherit.

The lawsuit accuses pharmaceutical companies of “deceptively marketing” Tylenol as a safe option for pregnant mothers.

And now, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the maker of Tylenol, Kenvue and Johnson & Johnson, who previously sold Tylenol, claiming that they have been “deceptively marketing Tylenol” knowing that it “leads to a significantly increased risk of autism and other disorders.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. further added to the Trump administration’s problematic claims about Tylenol and autism on Oct. 9, alleging during a Cabinet meeting that circumcision-related studies provide evidence that the drug causes the condition when given to children.
