As of 2021, the Land Cruiser was dead for North America, but other markets received a refreshed version of the model. Sales in its final months here skyrocketed in response to the news of its demise, and the return of a redesigned Land Cruiser came as a big surprise for the U.S. market.

Its latest project is based on the new Toyota Land Cruiser 250, sold as the Toyota Prado in some markets. Dubbed the AT37 – a reference to the 37-inch tyres fitted as part of a suite of modifications – the new car has been extensively reengineered by Arctic Trucks to deal with everything from icy tundra to the slopes of a volcano.

The new 4Runner did not surprise me in any way. It is exactly the modern off-road-capable vehicle you expect it to be, and essentially the SUV version of the latest Tacoma pickup. That means it is the most comfortable,
