The village of Skokie has voted to designate Old Orchard Mall as a business district with plans to tack on an extra 1% sales tax for shoppers.

Skokie’s Old Orchard Mall shuts down Tuesday after Skokie police issued an alert advising people to avoid the area.

The new mall tenant joins Arhaus, Zara and Pottery Barn to round out the redevelopment of the once-bustling Lord & Taylor department store, which closed its doors in 2018.
