Tanner McKee has a hand injury and isn't expected to be ready to back up Jalen Hurts for Week 1. Howell was acquired from the Vikings in late-August.

The Eagles traded for Vikings backup quarterback Sam Howell, signaling potential concern over Tanner McKee's finger injury and Kyle McCord's performance. Howell, a former Commanders and Seahawks quarterback, started against the Eagles twice in 2023, putting up significant passing yards in both games.
Howell was traded to the Seahawks two offseasons ago after the Commanders drafted Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 draft. He played in just three games before being sent to the Minnesota Vikings as part of a pick swap two days before the 2025 draft.
