Ray was awarded the Community Spirit Award from the New Rochelle Fund for Educational Excellence in March 2010. In 2012, he was voted the city of Baltimore's Most Charitable Person.

New Rochelle detectives have charged two men with murder in Monday's fatal shooting of a 22-year-old Mount Vernon man, but the suspected shooter remained at large as of Tuesday afternoon.
