Martin County deputies responded to the 18000 block of Southeast Federal Highway regarding a report of a dead body in the water on July 21, 2025. Detectives are still investigating the case.

Investigators found another body and extricated Thomas' vehicle with the help of Martin County Fire Rescue divers and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's sonar equipment.
