Comedic actor John Witherspoon, best known for his role as Ice Cube's father in the "Friday" movies, has died at age 77, his family confirmed Tuesday.

Though the actor's Hollywood career had been sporadic, it remains memorable. He soon appeared in The Fifth Element and Jackie Brown, both of which reunited him with Friday costar Chris Tucker.

Actor and comedian John Witherspoon died at age 77. Known for roles in the "Friday" trilogy and "The Wayans Bros." television show, Witherspoon was active in Hollywood for more than 40 years.
