An officer killed while responding to a Pennsylvania hospital siege was struck by a shotgun blast fired by police that also hit an armed man holding hostages, a prosecutor disclosed at a news conference Wednesday.

In a shootout at the UPMC Memorial hospital in York County on Feb. 22, police fired 22 shots at a man holding a woman hostage.

The officer who died responding to a gunman at UPMC Memorial Hospital in February was hit by police fire, a prosecutor said.
