After more than three years, the grist mill in Spring Mill State Park is again grinding corn. It was October 2021 when the mill at the center of the state park's Pioneer Village quit working.
The mill as it stands today was built by his son, James Earle Hagood, about 1845. Ownership passed to successive generations of the family, and the mill continued to operate commercially until 1966.
Johnny cakes are the featured attraction at the Westport mill, one of the oldest continually operating grist mills in New England.
