D.C.’s iconic cherry blossoms have reached the second stage of their bloom cycle, bringing the city one step closer to its annual display of pink and white petals, the National Park Service announced Sunday.

D.C.’s iconic Yoshino cherry blossoms have reached stage two as they head towards peak bloom, the National Park Service announced Sunday. Stage two means that florets, or tiny green buds, are visible on the trees.

The arboretum is tucked inside the 22-acre Holmdel Park, and the cherry blossoms are the clear showstoppers. In this garden, you can find different species of cherry blossom trees, especially Yoshino, Sargent, and weeping Higan varieties.

The famed cherry blossom trees are making their way toward peak bloom in D.C. Here’s a look at their progress.

But the best guess, as of publication, is that the blooms will be in view toward the middle of the month, around Monday, March 17. Visitors can check Duke Gardens’ website ( gardens.duke.edu/cherry-blossoms) to see daily photo updates and soon, watch a livestream of the cherry allée. Last year, peak bloom was around March 20, 2024.
