Carli Lloyd led United States to their first Women's World Cup title in 16 years, scoring a hat-trick in a 5-2 thrashing of Japan on Sunday.

The United States has won its third Women's World Cup title and first since 1999 with a 5-2 victory over Japan on Sunday behind a first-half hat trick by Carli Lloyd.

It was the fastest hat trick in World Cup history — men or women — and Lloyd became the first American since Michelle Akers in 1991 to score multiple goals in a World Cup final.
