Citing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, DOT shared that in 2022 “there were 498 fatal traffic crashes and an estimated 32,213 injury crashes that occurred when there was snow and/or sleet conditions at the time of the crash. CTDOT emphasizes that preparation is essential for safe winter driving.”

The weather service also upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning that will run from Friday afternoon to Saturday afternoon for much of the region. The winter storm warning covers Fairfield County, Litchfield County and New Haven County, where 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected, the weather service said.
