Government shutdown deadlines — and even full-on shutdowns — aren’t new for Washington, but this time, with federal funding set to run out Saturday after midnight, no one knows quite what to expect.

A federal judge ordered Elon Musk and DOGE to reveal its plans to downsize the government and to identify all its employees, among other actions.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has announced he's ready to start the process of considering a Republican-led spending bill to prevent a midnight Friday government shutdown.

"As bad as passing the CR is, allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power via a government shutdown is a far worse option," Schumer said.

Schumer relented one day after he vowed Senate Democrats would thwart the "partisan" measure, saying the "chaos" of a government shutdown would be a worse option.
