The United States has ended federal protections shielding thousands of migrants from Nicaragua and Honduras from deportation, angering immigration and civil rights advocacy groups.

The move comes after a federal judge in New York last week blocked the Trump administration from ending temporary legal status for more than 500,000 Haitians living in the United States.

The Trump administration is ending 25 years of protections for immigrants from two countries: Nicaragua and Honduras. In notices published in the Federal Register on Monday morning, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that it would allow the current T emporary Protected Status (TPS) for both countries to lapse as of July 5.
