State education officials revoke license of DMPS Superintendent Ian Roberts

State education officials have revoked the education license of Ian Roberts, the superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said agents arrested Roberts on Friday because he was in the country illegally,

DMPS superintendent Ian Roberts detained by ICE agents following pursuit

According to a press release from ICE, Roberts is a Guyana National and was given a final order of removal by an immigration judge in May of 2024. DMPS said it did not have any knowledge of the order for removal. Roberts entered the United States in 1999 on a student visa, ICE said.
